Does This Mean the Russians Get Saturn?

The majority sale of Opel, General Motors' (GM) main European division, to Magna (a Canadian parts supplier) and a state-supported Russian bank is being called a “success” for Vladimir Putin. It's certainly a problem for Italy's Silvio Berlusconi, who now looks as if he failed to back globetrotting Fiat super-CEO Sergio Marchionne in his bid to snap up Opel. As for the Ruskie connection...well, most Americans know Opel indirectly because many Saturns are based on Opel platforms. GM wants to shed Saturn, a brand that has some proletarian DNA anyway. So hello Moscow! Of course, now that GM has been nationalized, it may regret letting comrade Saturn go. (link)
